Le Charmois, an east-facing site bordering Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées, features shallow clay-on-limestone soils that dictate a lean, mineral-driven architecture. To balance the 2023 season’s solar intensity, the Bachelets utilized a light crushing of the fruit to extract a structural, bitter-phenolic nerve that anchors the wine’s concentrated mid-palate. This technical decision, paired with the site’s naturally cool exposure, results in a wine defined by vertical tension, saline persistence, and a focused, chalky finish.

Luis Pato, the definitive voice of Bairrada, produces this single-vineyard Baga from Quinta do Moinho with a focus on maximizing the variety's potential. Through rigorous green harvesting and meticulous vineyard management, Pato ensures the fruit reaches a level of concentration that honors the site’s history. The vineyard is situated on heavy chalky-clay soils and buffered by a perimeter of eucalyptus trees, a unique landscape that imparts a distinct mineral tension and a signature balsamic character to the wine.

The 2009 vintage benefited from a warm growing season, allowing the grapes to achieve a deeper ripeness and more supple texture than is typical for the region. By utilizing total destemming and a twelve-month maturation in Allier oak, Pato has refined Baga’s naturally assertive tannins into a sophisticated, fine-grained structure. The resulting wine is authoritative and persistent, perfectly balancing its maritime-influenced acidity with a concentrated weight that reflects this specific site and a historic vintage.

Daniele Ricci operates from the conviction that his role is to shepherd the land rather than command it, a philosophy that has made his Cascina San Leto a sanctuary for the noble Timorasso grape. Deep in the hills of Colli Tortonesi, he allows this variety to express its intrinsic power and structural intensity without unnecessary interference. The 2021 vintage gifted the region with a rare balance of tension and ripeness, providing a stable foundation for the wine's naturally driving acidity. On the palate, it feels like polished stone—dense and focused—with a saline undertone that pulls the fruit into a long, resonant finish. This is an honest, unvarnished portrait of a place that remains one of Piedmont's most compelling, understated frontiers.
