Here only one style of wine is produced : Methode Ancestrale Rose Demi-Sec, a mouthful of a name for a wine that is like a refreshing strawberry soda. Most of the wines in this style are mainly based in Gamay and produced using sulfur. Marcel Perinet is the owner and winemaker at La Dentelle, a change of gears after 41 years as director of the 3 Michelin starred restaurant Georges Blanc. He is a precise and thoughtful winemaker who has elevated the potential of the region, choosing to use mostly Poulsard grapes from 100 year old vines, 80%, with the balance from 40 year old Gamay vines. High quality base material plus clean and exacting temperature controlled vinification results in a drier style of Bugey, with a restrained and refreshing amount of sweetness. Perinet also works naturally, with all native yeast ferments and no added sulfur.

Maison Lambert de Seyssel maintains the historic sparkling identity of this alpine enclave, emphasizing the distinct profile of indigenous Molette and Altesse. The estate utilizes hand-harvesting and a traditional secondary fermentation followed by two years of lees aging, a technical decision aimed at integrating structural breadth while preserving the grapes’ natural high-toned acidity.

These vines occupy the steep, sun-drenched slopes of the Seyssel AOC, where the terroir is defined by glacial moraines and Urgonian limestone over a sandstone base. The wine is characterized by a precise, vertical architecture, offering a fine-textured mousse and a saline-inflected mid-palate density that signals its calcareous origins.

This focus on mineral clarity results in a bone-dry finish driven by persistent, lean tension rather than phenolic weight.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0709/8001/0232/files/IMG_2769_909b8814-75c3-4c6c-99d4-199b94243a1f.jpg?v=1764783530
domaine-des-ardoisieres-argile-blanc-vin-des-allobroges-4
2023 Domaine des Ardoisieres, Vin des Allobroges, Argile Blanc

This white blend is made up of 40% Jacquere, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Mondeuse Blanche. These grapes are grown high up in the Saint-Pierre-de-Socry and Apremont regions of the Savoie, looking at up Mont Blanc. The vineyards are situated on steep, challenging slopes, particularly those with black shale clay, which adds to the unique minerality of the wines and why this wine is called Argile (which means clay in French). This is bone dry, a little salty with lemon, green apple, white flowers and some minerality and texture. This is heroic wine made in a very non-invasive, hands-off way. This cuvée, a blend of Jacquère, Roussanne, Malvoisie, and Mondeuse Blanche, is vinified with native yeasts and whole-cluster pressed before twelve months of aging in seasoned barriques.

The 2023 growing season, salvaged by timely September rains after a summer of extreme heat and drought, allowed for the development of physiological ripeness while maintaining the necessary structural tension typical of this high-altitude site. The resulting wine is characterized by a dense, layered mid-palate and high-toned acidity, defined by a fine-grained, saline architectural frame.

This combination of terroir and vintage conditions yields a wine defined by its nerve, focus, and clear mineral-driven profile.

While the Savoie has not become a household name for wine lovers, estates like Domaine des Ardoisieres are increasingly making the case that it should be.
