Simply put, Domaine Hubert Lamy is not an address that you can afford to overlook if you consider yourself a lover of serious white Burgundy. Olivier Lamy has been on a tear since taking over for his father in the mid 90's, gradually acquiring new hillside plots and ratcheting up quality across the board. Because St. Aubin does not have the same prestige as Puligny and Chassagne in recent times, Olivier’s superlative examples often do not get the same kind of attention as their more famous neighbors, even when their quality comfortably outclasses many of them.
Lamy is a master of his craft, precise and refreshingly innovative in all aspects of production. He's increased the planting density of his vines, cut yields and is now raising everything in 300 & 600L barrels. We know his wines have all the stuffing for a very long life in the cellar, so there is no rush to open them, but they are so immaculately balanced and expressive that they will be hard to resist even this early on. Olivier owns .7ha in this 1er Cru, a true walled clos that is planted over hard limestone, which gives the wine an elegant mineral character that marries perfectly to its breadth and ample texture.
