Please join us on Wednesday, May 7th, as we welcome Faustine Abbatucci, daughter of Corsican winemaker Jean-Charles Abbatucci, for an exclusive tasting. This is a free tasting event that will take place at our shop on 540 West 28th Street from 5:30-6:30pm. We have always been big supporters of Domaine Abbatucci, one of the island’s top wineries. Faustine will be on hand to guide us through an exciting lineup, including wines named after her!

Jean-Charles Abbatucci is a biodynamic acolyte on the western coast of Corsica and an essential figure in the fabric of modern Corsican wine, and we’d argue he runs one of the most important Domaine's in all of France. From a general in the French Revolution to a local defender of indigenous grapes, the Abbatucci family have always championed the underdog. Antoine Abbatucci founded Domaine Abbatucci in 1950. In the 1960s, as the President of Corsica’s Agricultural Council, he began a crusade to rescue endangered native Corsican vines by taking cuttings from local farmers and replanting them on a single slope rich in granite. Antoine simultaneously preserved Corsica’s unique winemaking heritage and created a library of varieties for Domaine Abbatucci to carry into the future. Jean-Charles took the reins from his father in 1992 and began the long task of converting the entire estate to biodynamics, finally earning his certification in 2006. Even though he represented Corsica at the INAO, the vagaries of AOC laws frustrated him to the point where he has completely abandoned the appellation system and currently bottles all his wines under the Vin de France label. In the great Corsican tradition of independence, Jean-Charles blazes his own trail. If you’ve never had the pleasure of drinking these wines, this is a wonderful opportunity to see first-hand why we can’t drink enough of them!
