The Details: Highlighting one of our favorite Greek Wineries: Zafeirakis

   2022 Young Vineyards Limniona, Tyrnavos - 11 btls @ $29.99/btl ($26.99 with case discount)
Zafeirakis has been central to the revival of Limniona, a native Thessalian variety that nearly disappeared before being replanted in Tyrnavos. The fruit here comes from younger parcels (up to ~20 years) around Paleomylos, rooted in sandy-clay soils with flint, which keep the wine light on its feet.

Fermented with native yeasts and handled in neutral vessels, with a focus on keeping extraction gentle. No heavy oak shaping. Limniona sits somewhere between Pinot and cool-climate Syrah—red fruit, herbs, a bit of earth—but the key is the texture: light, lifted, and easy to drink without losing structure.

   2024 Assyrtiko, Tyrnavos - 12+ btls @ $26.99/btl ($24.29 with case discount)
Zafeirakis works in Tyrnavos in Thessaly, one of the few mainland regions where Assyrtiko is being taken seriously outside of Santorini. The soils here are clay and limestone, which give a broader, less austere expression than the volcanic versions from the islands. Fermented with native yeasts and raised in neutral vessels (steel and/or concrete) to keep the focus on the grape. No oak influence. This shows Assyrtiko in a different register—still driven by acidity, but with more texture and a softer edge than Santorini, making it easier to drink without losing structure.
