The domaine owns a little less than a hectare of 40-70 year old vines in Mazis, their only Grand Cru holdings. The '08 shows great poise and taut structure. The wine is smoky, with brambly fruit and classic earthy flavors. Like many '08's we've tried recently, this is just starting to show its true colors and will provide for some great drinking over the next decade or more.
Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy owns just over three-quarters of a hectare of vines in Mazis, with the vineyards’ age between forty and seventy years of age. The estate makes a very elegant rendition of Mazis (which can sometimes be a bit sauvage out of the blocks at other addresses), and the 2008 shows exceptional potential. The classic and refined nose offers up scents of cassis, black cherries, venison, coffee bean, fresh herb tones and a beautifully complex base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure, with a superb core of fruit, outstanding soil signature, ripe tannins, tangy acids and excellent length and grip on the nascently complex and very poised finish. A beautiful Mazis.
