From the same portfolio as Tertre Roteboeuf, this is François Mijtavile’s property in the Cote de Bourg. His style is to leave the grapes on the vine for much longer than his peers. He’s usually one of the last to pick. He’s not only looking for physiological ripeness, but also and importantly, phenolic ripeness. This can be a worrisome technique in the wrong hands, but Francois is incredibly talented. The wines are rich and full of character, but not at all overblown and out of balance. He’s very focused on equilibrium. This is on clay/limestone, and the clay keeps the soil cool and allows for a long growing season. It’s drinking well now with a nice earthy character.
