The Thiberts have roots in the region going back centuries, but it was only when the current generation, Christophe Thibert and his sister Sandree, took over the domaine that a real push for quality began in earnest. Like other Maconnais revolutionaries, they embraced their best terroirs, farming them sustainably and bottling them individually.
Today Domaine Thibert is one of the Maconnais’ leading addresses. The house style focuses on freshness and mineral transparency, with an eye towards cellar-worthiness. You see all of these things in Champ Rond, which comes from a single vineyard on a limestone plateau in the village of Leynes. Four years on from the vintage, the wine is bright, salty, and citrus-forward, with some oyster shell-like complexity. It’s drinking well now and will easily age for years longer if that’s your inclination.
