Tucked into Italy's northwest corner beneath the Alps, Piedmont is one of the most grape-diverse regions on earth. While Nebbiolo and Barolo get most of the attention, the region is home to an extraordinary cast of indigenous varieties — each with its own personality, its own place in the landscape, and its own relationship with the Piedmontese table. This class is a portrait of that diversity: from the bright, bitter-edged charm of Dolcetto and the juicy, food-driven energy of Barbera, to the rare and aromatic Ruché, to the structured, contemplative complexity of Nebbiolo as it climbs toward Barolo. We'll move through the region grape by grape, exploring what makes Piedmont unlike anywhere else in Italy — and anywhere else in the world.
Kimberly Cavoores, Wine and Experience Director of Manhattan Wine Company, will guide you through each variety — where it grows, what it tastes like, and why Piedmont rewards the curious drinker again and again.
