A Rising Star in Champagne: A New Era for Champagne Crété Chamberlin
July 8, 2026
The newly reimagined long-standing estate, Crété Chamberlin, is currently one of Champagne's best-kept secrets. These are expressive, terroir-transparent wines that offer a rare opportunity to taste the bold future of a historic family liniage.
Representing the 15th generation of winegrowers and the 8th generation of winemakers, siblings Mathieu and Blandine Crété are taking their family's historic estate to new heights. Formerly known as Dominique Crété & fils, the newly reimagined Crété Chamberlin spans 8 hectares across the Côte des Blancs and the Côteaux Sud d’Épernay. The dynamic duo farms extraordinary old vines ranging from 60 to 120 years old across 84 distinct plots in 11 villages, rooted in exceptional terroir including Grand Crus like Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Avize, and propagated from century-old vines via sélection massale.
Inside their modern cellar, Mathieu and Blandine favor a gentle, minimal-intervention approach to winemaking. The fruit is delicately extracted using a pneumatic press, moved seamlessly to tank by gravity. Sulfite additions are kept to an absolute minimum. Primary fermentation is driven entirely by indigenous yeasts and malolactic conversion is allowed to occur spontaneously, though it is welcomed if nature intends it.
Time is a crucial ingredient at Crété Chamberlin. All Champagnes rest on their lees for a minimum of two and a half years, with vintage bottlings afforded double that time to develop further depth and complexity. On a fun, historical note: you might notice these labels of the CDB bear a striking resemblance to one of today’s most sought-after Champagne producers. It’s no coincidence. Before securing his own space, that particular winemaker made his wines in the Chamberlin cellars for years. It’s not imitation; it’s just a shared lineage of exceptional winemaking.
For those who love to discover the region's rising stars before the rest of the world catches on, this is a domaine to watch, and more importantly, to drink.
