A New Era For Guy Charlemagne
October 31, 2026
You don't often find a Grand Cru Champagne from Le Mesnil for under $70, no less. But it is true, and we are thrilled to offer the Champagnes of Guy Charlemagne.
The Charlemagne family has farmed vines in Le Mesnil since 1892. Sisters Justine and Marie took over from their father, Philippe, after the 2023 harvest and now care for 12 hectares of old vines averaging 58 years, all massale selection. They farm some of the most sought-after land in Le Mesnil, including Les Chétillons, Les Coullemets, Les Hauts Jardins, Les Mussettes, Mont-Joly and Aillerand du Midi.
The Grande Réserve drinks way above its price point. This Base 2019 blends twelve Mesnil parcels with 30% reserve wine, spends around five years sur lattes, and is finished Extra Brut. Vinification is in stainless steel to preserve the terroir's verticality. Expect crystalline fruit, chalky tension and a fine, creamy mousse. Antonio Galloni senses "quite a bit of untapped potential" here, and we agree.
If you love precise, mineral Blanc de Blancs, this is a producer to get ahead of.
