Welcome to a new tasting series we are starting! Saturdays have always been a fun day with many friends of the shop visiting, and we decided to take it up a notch and commit to having some wine open every Saturday. Expect laid back, casual tastings every Saturday with wine being opened mid afternoon and pours to continue until around 6pm. Come have a glass, chat with us, and maybe even walk out with new friends and a bottle of something for yourself!
For the inaugural event we have put together a fun line up of varied wines from France:
2022 Désiré Petit - Arbois Pupillin Côte de Caillot Melon à Queue $23.99/bottle ($21.59 with case discount)
This is a genetic variant of Chardonnay called Melon à Queue Rouge which grows in the Jura region of France. Organically and biodynamically farmed, this is one of the finest vintages for this wine in recent memory. The nose is very clean and has an admirable purity. This shows the dry and mineral side of Chardonnay and is a staple for many locals and galleries when they entertain.
2021 Clos Venturi - Vin de Corse Rouge Brama Sciaccarellu P 738 $35.99/bottle ($32.39 with case discount)
This is a rare Corsican rouge crafted from Sciaccarellu, a grape with Tuscan origins affectionately known as "Corsican Pinot Noir" for its ethereal weightlessness. Manu Venturi's winery in Ponte Leccia, situated on a unique sandstone hill at Corsica's highest elevation, practices meticulous biodynamic agriculture that infuses the wine with remarkable terroir. The wine offers expressive dark cherry and ground spice aromatics with wild herbal undertones, delivering a delicate palate of tart red berry and black pepper. Its Nebbiolo-esque lightness and integrated tannic grip make it a serious value that captures the potential of Corsican wines.
2022 Philippe Jouan - Coteaux Bourguignons $46/bottle
Rounding out this weekend’s line up is one of the better values in Burgundy. Many Burgundy insiders who crave old-school, pure and unadulterated / ‘no make-up’ wines find this is one of the smartest investments you can make in red Burgundy, as this bottle delivers so much character for under $50 -- these are from old vines and pure Pinot Noir, and the élevages, harvest dates, and fermentations in no way mask the pure, forthright quality of the fruit.
