Support the Wine Industry While Drinking Great Wine from MWC! Meet Guest Sommelier John Burns Paterson Since we can continue to operate our business, we want to do all that we can to help support our amazing wine community. Together with a number of extremely talented and passionate sommeliers around the city, we’re launching #MWCWineRelief. With the #MWCWineRelief email series, we’ve engaged sommeliers as guest writers for our newsletters to continue promoting winemakers we love, the restaurants and their employees that have been impacted by this crisis, and the importers and distributors who have been such important partners to us over the years. In lieu of paying these sommeliers for their writing, we’re going to make a guaranteed contribution to their staff funds along with a portion of the proceeds generated from these offers. Our first guest writer is John Burns Paterson, Wine Director at Frankie’s Spuntino Restaurant Group, which includes three restaurants in Brooklyn – Frankie’s 457 (still delivering via Caviar), F&F Pizzeria, and Franks Wine Bar. John has chosen to write about Monteraponi, a top Chianti producer in Radda that is distributed by our great friends at Grand Cru Selections. Thank you for your continued support, stay healthy. Sincerely, Matt Tornabene MONTERAPONI Written by Guest Sommelier John Burns Paterson We're currently unable to physically welcome you to Franks Wine Bar, but that doesn’t mean we can’t help you find the ideal wine to drink at home. I’ll tell you first about a regular fixture of our program, Monteraponi, a producer behind some of the comforting wines we know. Honest and true to the terroir of the village of Radda, these are not simply some of the best wines in Italy. They’re some of the best in the world. The Chianti Classico, in particular, is one I return to again and again. It’s a versatile bottling, marked by freshness and precision, that would probably work for anything prepared at home, from a simple bowl of pasta to a grilled steak. The 2018 vintage is certainly no exception. But Monteraponi’s best wine, arguably, comes from the Il Campitello vineyard. These 40-year-old vines are the oldest on the estate and yield a classic, exemplary Chianti Classico Riserva — a truly breathtaking Sangiovese. It is aromatic and inviting, firm on the palate, with beautiful acidity and texture. Perfect enjoyed today, and even better aged in the cellar. The 2015 Il Campitello is a stunner and ready to drink now, and the 2016 is perhaps the best wine Michele Braganti of Monteraponi has ever made. It'll certainly benefit from some time in the cellar. Please follow the links below to purchase directly from our site, or call / email us if you need some assistance. The wines below are offered on a first come, first served basis and will begin shipping starting Tuesday March 24th. |
