Founded in 1787 in the village of Doué-la-Fontaine, Moulin Touchais has been managed by eight generations of the Touchais family and maintains a long-standing practice of holding wines in their deep underground cellars for at least a decade before release. This wine is made from Chenin Blanc grapes grown in the clay and schist soils of the Upper-Layon, where the harvest is split into multiple passes to balance high natural acidity with concentrated sugar levels. In the glass, it reveals notes of baked apple, honey, and ground almond, supported by a textured mid-palate and persistent acidity. The 1998 vintage was a classic year that provided the fruit with enough ripeness to maintain depth while preserving the house’s signature focus and freshness. This wine is currently showing well and offers a compelling look at a mature, balanced sweet wine that remains ready to enjoy now.
