Domaine de Chevalier is located in the forest-surrounded town of Léognan and has been under the careful stewardship of the Bernard family since 1983. The vineyard is situated on a specific terroir of fine gravel and black sand resting on a clay-gravel subsoil, and this red is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. In the glass, the wine displays notes of blackcurrant, graphite, and cedar, supported by a structured, silky texture. The 2009 vintage provided a long, warm, and dry growing season that allowed the grapes to achieve significant concentration and ripeness. This bottle is well-balanced and approachable now, though its structure ensures it remains built for the cellar.
