Jean-Marie Fourrier's "philosophy of doing nothing" centers on meticulous vineyard stewardship, cultivating old vines from which only healthy, perfectly ripe grapes are retained following severe winter pruning. This 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru hails from Champeaux, a high-altitude, east-facing site on the commune's northern edge, characterized by shallow, stony soils over fossiliferous crinoidal limestone bedrock. The challenging 2012 growing season, marked by uneven flowering and low yields, was ultimately saved by a propitious late summer, which ensured physiological ripeness in the small, concentrated berries. Consequently, this double magnum presents a wine of significant density, marked by ripe, finely-grained tannins and a firm acid structure that reflects both the cool Champeaux terroir and the concentrated nature of the vintage. Fourrier's minimal intervention in the cellar, including limited new oak and no racking, ensures the wine's direct expression of its origin and structural integrity.
