2012 Harmand-Geoffroy, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, Lavaut Saint-Jacques - Magnum

Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy, guided by Philippe Harmand's focus on fruit expression, employs traditional viticulture without herbicides or insecticides across its exclusively Gevrey-Chambertin vineyards, including the esteemed Lavaut Saint-Jacques Premier Cru. This site, characterized by its varied limestone-clay soils within the Combe de Lavaux, yields Pinot Noir from vines averaging 40-95 years, profoundly influencing the wine's inherent structure. The challenging 2012 growing season, marked by a difficult spring and exceptionally low yields, led to small, thick-skinned berries that, coupled with a fine, hot, dry summer, achieved concentrated physiological ripeness. Vinification, featuring 100% destemming and extended maceration, results in a wine defined by firm yet refined tannins, excellent mid-palate density, and a notable retention of acidity that underscores its Gevrey-Chambertin identity. This magnum format offers an extended evolution of this concentrated, terroir-driven expression.
