2015 Mayacamas, Cabernet Sauvignon, Mt. Veeder

Mayacamas Vineyards has occupied its rugged, historic estate on the slopes of Mt. Veeder since 1889, where generations of caretakers have maintained a commitment to traditional, site-driven winemaking. The estate’s vineyards sit at elevations between 1,800 and 2,200 feet, where the vines grow in mineral-rich soils composed of weathered volcanic rock and ash. This bottle, made from Cabernet Sauvignon, displays tightly wound notes of black currant, dark blueberry, and wet slate, balanced by a firm, structured, and gravelly texture. The 2015 vintage was marked by warm, dry conditions and an early harvest, resulting in lower yields that concentrated the fruit's intensity and refined its tannins. Built for the cellar, this wine is a serious candidate for long-term aging and will continue to evolve and develop complexity over the next two decades.
