2017 Rhys, Horseshoe Vineyard Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains - Magnum

Rhys Vineyards, founded by Kevin Harvey in 2004, has established a dedicated estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains centered on the pursuit of site-specific, terroir-driven wines. Made from grapes grown in the high-elevation Horseshoe Vineyard, this wine is rooted in shallow, rocky soils consisting of 11- to 15-million-year-old Monterey shale and limestone. In the glass, it displays a savory profile with notes of black cherry, menthol, crushed rocks, and dried herbs, supported by a structured and grippy texture. The 2017 growing season presented unique challenges, yet the vineyard produced a focused, resonant wine that handled the vintage’s conditions with notable clarity.
