Shafer Vineyards is a family-founded estate located in the Stags Leap District, where the family has produced wine since their first vintage in 1978 after John Shafer purchased the property in 1972. This wine is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from 14 specific hillside vineyard blocks characterized by rugged, rocky, and thin volcanic soils. In the glass, it shows layers of black cherry, crème de cassis, and cedar, supported by a full-bodied structure and firm, polished tannins. The 2017 growing season resulted in lower yields and concentrated fruit, giving the wine significant depth and notable intensity.
