2018 Rhys, Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains - Magnum

Founded by Kevin Harvey in 2001, Rhys Vineyards maintains its estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains where it utilizes organic and biodynamic farming practices to manage its diverse, high-elevation sites. This wine is produced from vines planted in the shallow, chalky siltstone of the Purisima Formation within the Alpine Vineyard, a site situated at an elevation of up to 1,490 feet. In the glass, it shows clear notes of black cherry, crushed rock, and subtle herbs, defined by a medium-bodied, elegant texture and firm, persistent tannins. The 2018 growing season featured mild conditions that allowed for slow, even ripening, resulting in a balanced profile with notable structural density. This magnum is built for the cellar and will continue to develop further nuance over the next decade.
