2018 Rhys, Horseshoe Vineyard Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz Mountains - Magnum

Rhys Vineyards maintains its estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where it has utilized organic and biodynamic farming practices since its founding in 2004 to manage its high-elevation sites. The fruit for this release is grown on steep, rocky slopes featuring 11-to-15-million-year-old diatomaceous shale and limestone soils, with vines originally planted in 2004. In the glass, this wine exhibits dense notes of black cherry, licorice, and earthy mineral undertones, supported by a firm, structured, and silky texture. The 2018 vintage featured a long, cool growing season that facilitated slow, even ripening, resulting in a notably balanced profile. This magnum is built for the cellar and will continue to develop complexity over the coming decade.
