We were thrilled with the 2020 Valtellina Superiore - Sassella, "De la Mur." This wine is made by Mamete Prevostini, and delivers a balanced, pure Nebbiolo character with elegant tannins and soaring aromatics. This alpine red hails from the esteemed Sassella sub-region of Lombardy, where vineyards are dramatically terraced on steep, south-facing slopes at 400-600 meters altitude, rooted in well-drained, sandy, iron-rich glacial soils. Convento San Lorenzo, a historic 12th-century monastery whose "De Le Mur" name refers to its ancient walled vineyards, embodies "heroic viticulture," meticulously hand-harvesting these challenging plots. This dedication yields an elegant and concentrated mountain Nebbiolo that vividly expresses the unique high-altitude terroir and the producer's commitment to authenticity and finesse.
