2020 Promontory, Napa Valley

Promontory, an endeavor from the Harlan family, cultivates dry-farmed vineyards across a secluded 840-acre estate in Napa Valley's western hills, characterized by a rare convergence of volcanic, sedimentary, and metamorphic soils. Meticulous vineyard stewardship and an early 2020 harvest, completed before the challenging wildfires, ensured optimal physiological ripeness while preserving the site's inherent tension and purity. Winemaking relies on indigenous yeasts and extended aging in large format Austrian oak casks, allowing the wine's architectural linearity and mineral depth to articulate unmasked. The resulting Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend exhibits very firm, fine-grained tannins, crisp acidity, and a concentrated mid-palate, reflecting the vintage's early phenolic maturity and the unique energy derived from its high-elevation terroir.
