Under the visionary direction of Louis-Benjamin Dagueneau, the Les Jardins de Babylone project in Jurançon has become a benchmark for precision and viticultural rigor. This 2021 Petit Manseng, born from three hectares of steep, biodynamically farmed terraces in Aubertin, perfectly captures the site’s fundamental mineral drive and clay-silica soils. A cooler growing season has imparted a striking structural tension to the wine, defined by a sharp, piercing acidity and a taut, architectural mid-palate. Vinified with spontaneous fermentation and aged in the domaine’s specialized vessels, the 2021 emphasizes long-term evolution and purity over immediate fruit, offering a profound expression of one of France’s most unique terroirs.
After sporadic attempts at producing sweet wines in Pouilly-Fumé, which were often delicious but never recognized by the appellation, Didier Dagueneau went in search of undervalued sweet wine vineyards and found them in the appellation of Jurançon at the base of the majestic Pyrenees Mountains. Dagueneau's Jurançon is lush, complex, and electric with acidity in a way that makes most sweet wines feel lazy by comparison.
