The aptly named “Hill of Violets” Cru sees wildflowers bloom early in the Spring in this high-altitude, Comune di Barolo vineyard considered to be Vajra's top and most historic cuvée. Bricco delle Viole's distinctive white soils, packed with limestone, magnesium, and manganese, coupled with its high elevation and cooling afternoon breezes, produce a wine of exceptional finesse, captivating floral aromatics, and remarkable freshness and in a class above the others. Until Giulia Negri started farming above it in Serradenari, Bricco used to be the highest MGA Cru in all of Barolo. “Above the fog, Bricco delle Viole enjoys the earliest sunrise and the last sunset every day. Thanks to this pure light, a dramatic diurnal temperature range and the age of its vines dating back to 1931, 1949 and 1968, Bricco delle Viole generates a profound Barolo of bright aromatics, chiseled tannins and subtle minerality.” Without question, 2021 Bricco is the best example we've ever tasted. The limestome and white marl soils produced a perfectly balanced and classy wine. Bright, brilliant red spicy fruits. Lovely texture and length. Refined and pure but with sneaky structure – what is not to love? -
