Sicily doesn't lack for interesting wine — but the interior is a different conversation entirely from the coastal, sun-drenched bottles most people picture when they think of the island.
Gaetano Gargano farms organically at 700 meters in Palazzo Adriano, a remote mountain village in south-central Sicily that most wine drinkers have never heard of. His mentor is Giampiero Bea — one of Umbria's most uncompromising natural winemakers — and that influence shows in every decision made here. No shortcuts, no temperature control, no concessions to the market.
The Praruar is 100% Catarratto, an indigenous Sicilian grape that rarely gets the serious treatment it deserves. Three weeks of skin contact with indigenous yeasts gives it a texture and grip that orange wine lovers will recognize immediately — but this isn't a novelty bottle. The volcanic soils and extreme diurnal swings at altitude keep the acidity alive and the wine structured and focused despite the warmth of 2021. The result is rich and textural, with fine sinewy tannins, a dry mineral finish, and a saline persistence that lingers.
