2021 Lapo Berti, Barolo, Fossati

Lapo Berti established his eponymous project in 2012 after gaining experience with notable producers in Piedmont and beyond, focusing his efforts on meticulously farming leased parcels in La Morra. This wine is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Fossati MGA, a site characterized by marly soils with 25% sand, 39% clay, and high iron content, where vines aged 20 to 60 years sit at 513 meters of elevation. In the glass, it presents focused notes of red fruit, aromatic herbs, and earth, backed by a structured, persistent texture. The 2021 vintage provided a balanced growing season with ideal day-to-night temperature variations, resulting in a wine that combines significant tension with a classic, fresh aromatic profile. This Barolo is built for the cellar, though its underlying balance suggests it will reward those who choose to wait for further development.
