2021 Poderi Sanguineto I & II, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

The Vino Nobile from Poderi Sanguineto is one of the last traditional wines made in Montepulciano. Dora Forsoni learned winemaking from her father in 1968 and has not changed her methods since. Her vineyards are planted not only to Sangiovese, but also include 20-30% Mammolo and Canaiolo - a rarity for Vino Noble. This combination lends the wine extra fragrance and helps soften Sangiovese's angular nature. The Vino Noble is organically farmed, fermenting in concrete and spending two years in large casks before bottling. The 2021 Vino Nobile sultry and alluring with dark red fruit, violets, and just a hint of smoke on the nose. The palate is full and ripe, with slightly chewy tannins and plenty of acidity to keep things lively.
