2022 Domaine du Collier, Saumur Rouge, La Ripaille

Domaine du Collier was established in 1999 by Antoine Foucault and Caroline Boireau in the commune of Brézé, where the estate maintains a disciplined, organic approach to farming its nearly seven hectares of vines. This wine is made from Cabernet Franc grown in the La Ripaille lieu-dit, a site defined by clay topsoil layered over calcium-rich tuffeau limestone that encourages the vines to develop deep root systems. In the glass, it presents focused notes of red currant, damp earth, and a distinct mineral tension, supported by a medium-bodied structure and firm, fine-grained tannins. The 2022 vintage provided consistent conditions that allowed for excellent fruit ripeness while maintaining the high-toned acidity characteristic of this specific vineyard. This is a balanced, precise wine that is ready to enjoy after a short decant, though its composition makes it a suitable candidate for further cellar aging.
