2023 Comando G, Castilla y Leon, Las Iruelas El Tiemblo

Comando G was founded in 2008 by Daniel Jiménez-Landi and Fernando García, who work to elevate the Garnacha grape within the rugged, high-altitude landscape of the Sierra de Gredos. This wine is made from 70- to 75-year-old vines planted at 1,000 meters elevation in complex soils of slate, granite, and quartz. On the palate, it shows fine-boned structure with notes of wild strawberry, dried flowers, and a distinct peppery finish, characterized by chalky, powdery tannins. The 2023 vintage was shaped by a cool growing season and an April hailstorm, resulting in a paler, more ethereal profile with notable freshness. It is a complete, well-balanced wine that remains approachable now but holds the concentration to evolve further in the cellar.
