2023 Comando G, Castilla y Leon, El Tamboril Tinto

Comando G, founded in 2008 by childhood friends Daniel Landi and Fernando García, is a pioneering estate that revitalized high-altitude viticulture in the Sierra de Gredos mountains. This wine is made from 70-year-old Garnacha vines rooted in the cold, granitic, and quartz-rich soils of a north-facing site in Navatalgordo at 1,200 meters elevation. In the glass, it shows a restrained and elegant profile, marked by notes of red berries, licorice, and a distinct chalky minerality with fine, polished tannins. The 2023 vintage delivered a cool-climate character, resulting in a tense, balanced expression with significant finesse and structural purity. Built to evolve, this wine is approachable now with aeration but possesses the backbone to develop for years in the cellar.
