Arnaud Mortet is one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most compelling young voices, and Mes Cinq Terroirs is the wine that best captures the breadth of what the appellation can do. The name is literal — five distinct lieu-dits across Gevrey's northern slope, each bringing something different to the blend: En Motrot, Au Vellé, Combe du Dessus, En Champs, and En Derée. The vines average 70 years old, rooted in pebbly clay-limestone soils that give the wine its depth and structural backbone. Arnaud farms with minimal tillage and natural cover crops, and keeps cellar work measured — native yeasts, a portion of whole clusters, restrained new oak, and enough time in barrel to let the sites speak.
The 2023 vintage was generous without being excessive — small, thick-skinned berries, full physiological ripeness, and a natural acidity that kept everything in line. The result is a Gevrey with silky tannins, a focused mid-palate, and the kind of earthy, iron-tinged persistence that makes this village so addictive. Five terroirs, one clear point of view.
