The Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is sourced from an old single vineyard located in the "Reniard" lieu-dit, situated in the upper part of Gevrey-Chambertin village and extending from the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru. The very stony, well-drained soil lies on the Combe Grisard alluvial fan. Gérard-Séguin's vineyards are 60-90+ year old vines, yielding fruit with enhanced concentration and complexity, further benefited by the vineyard's south-facing exposure ensuring optimal ripeness. Their style is very much built on a gentle extraction of fruit and tannins, yielding sleek, supple wines that coat the palate, and leave you thirsty for another sip. Do not mistake its early appeal for a lack of class as this VV is a serious effort with brooding red fruits, minerality and harmony that is lovely today and only going to improve and add complexity and nuance over the coming years. Qualitatively, this is much more in line with Premier Cru-level wines from Gevrey. ’23 is a very attractive vintage for a number of reasons. It’s a solar, warm vintage with a couple of heat spikes along the way resulting in an abundant crop with high yields and producing wines with a very attractive, relaxed ethos that will drink well young. The best examples manage to have high levels of concentration but with great typicity, real staying power while also having early appeal and tremendous overall balance.
