2023 Marquis d'Angerville, Volnay, 1er Cru Taillepieds

Guillaume d’Angerville took over from his legendary father, Jacques, in 2003. Guillaume is a meticulous steward of the land rather than a radical innovator. Under his watch, the estate was fully converted to biodynamic farming. His goal is to convey his specific parcels of land in bottle form as clearly as possible, resulting in some of the most classic, exceptionally age-worthy Pinot Noirs in the world. Taillepieds (named for the sharp stones that historically "cut the feet" of vineyard workers) comes from vines located high up on the hill at a similar altitude to Clos des Ducs, in a windy, rocky location. Because of this harsh, limestone-heavy soil, Taillepieds is always an energetic, edgy, and highly structured wine with a massive mineral drive. It is tightly wound when young and demands patience in the cellar to fully unwind.
