2023 Emmanuel Rouget, Vosne-Romanee, 1er Cru Cros Parantoux

Emmanuel Rouget is the nephew of the late, great Henri Jayer, one of the legendary Domaines in Burgundy. Emmanuel and now his son Guillaume run the property with Guillaume playing a bigger and bigger role each year. These wines will live for an eternity – a very Vin de Guard style. Rouget approaches the 1er Cru Cros Parantoux with a commitment to low-intervention vinification, continuing the lineage of Henri Jayer through rigorous vineyard selection and the complete de-stemming of fruit. The site itself, a high-altitude, stony, and shallow-soiled slope sitting above the Richebourg Grand Cru, experiences a distinctively cool mesoclimate that necessitates careful management to ensure physiological maturity. In the 2023 vintage, this cooler exposition played a decisive role, preserving vital acidity and tension that anchor the wine's considerable structural density. The resulting architecture is defined by fine-grained, persistent tannins and a measured intensity that reflects the singular, challenging terroir of this legendary, dynamite-cleared vineyard.
