2023 Ghislaine Barthod, Bourgogne Blanc, Les Graviers

Ghislaine Barthod is one of the great female winemakers in Burgundy. She is not at all known for Chardonnay, rather she is heralded as one of the great winemakers in Chambolle-Musigny where Pinot Noir reigns supreme. However, in the mid-2010s, Ghislaine planted a half hectare parcel of Chardonnay in Chambolle-Musigny. She ages this wine for one year in a combination of 50% used 500-liter oak barrels and 50% terracotta jar. This is delicious, sleek, and satisfyingly clinging on the palate, with virtually no detectable oak influence. Its pronounced citrus profile and creamy texture make the bottle disappear fast. Great with shellfish.
