2023 Hubert Lignier, Morey-Saint-Denis, 1er Cru Les Chaffots

Lignier farms just under 0.5 ha of ~50-year-old vines in Les Chaffots, a higher, thinner-soiled site directly above Clos Saint-Denis. The elevation and stony limestone here give a tighter, more vertical expression than most of Morey.

Vinified in Lignier’s usual way—fully destemmed, ~5-day cold soak, ~15–20 day fermentation—then aged ~20–24 months in barrel (moderate new oak). The site does most of the work: this comes off more severe and structured than the domaine’s other Morey bottlings.

Among the firmer wines in the range—darker fruit, higher-toned acidity, and a stricter frame—built more on tension than weight.
