2023 Luis Pato, Bieras Branco, Vinha Formal

Luis Pato, a technical pioneer of Bairrada viticulture, produces the Vinha Formal Branco with a focus on capturing the structural potential of the Bical variety. Sourced from a specific site in Ois do Bairro prized for its chalky-clay and limestone soils, the wine is built upon a firm mineral skeleton. To develop its significant textural density, Pato ferments and matures the wine for nine months in 650-liter Allier oak barrels, a process that adds weight and a sophisticated phenolic frame without overshadowing the fruit’s natural character.

The 2023 vintage saw the region’s maritime influence successfully temper the season's heat, preserving a sharp, linear drive and the high-acid tension characteristic of coastal Portugal. This results in a wine defined by a fine-grained texture and a persistent, saline finish that reflects its unique geological identity. It is a bottle built for longevity, offering a focused and authoritative expression of one of Bairrada’s most important white grapes.
