2023 Pierre Morey, Bourgogne Cote d'Or Chardonnay

Pierre Morey is one of the quiet giants of the Côte d'Or. Before establishing his own domaine, he spent decades as cellar master at Domaine Leflaive — one of Burgundy's most celebrated addresses — and that experience is written into every decision he makes. He has farmed biodynamically since 1997, not as a marketing position but as a genuine commitment to soil health and vine resilience.

The Bourgogne Côte d'Or is drawn from four parcels in Meursault — Les Millerands, En Monatine, Les Herbeux, and Les Malpoiriers — deep clay-limestone soils with vines pushing 50 years old. The 2023 vintage was a warm year bookended by a cool, overcast summer that kept acidity intact, followed by a late August heat spike that concentrated the fruit at just the right moment. Ripe and generous through the mid-palate, with a bright tartaric backbone and saline tension that give it real energy. This is a Bourgogne in name only — the address behind it tells a different story.
