2023 Sesti (Castello di Argiano), Rosso di Montalcino

The legendary Giuseppe Sesti, a published astronomer and opera lover, purchased Castello di Argiano in the early 1970s. His daughter, Elisa, worked with him from 1999 until his recent passing in 2024, and together they brought their exceptional Brunello vineyards to full maturity. Their careful viticulture (practicing organic and biodynamic) and precision in the cellar allow them to work with minimal sulfur and make super pure, delicious wines. Their production is focused on typicity and showcasing Montalcino’s impressive regional character. There is no new oak on this wine – the Rosso is traditionally aged for 18 months in used, large Slovenian botti. The Sesti estate is a cornerstone Tuscan producer for us, and they produce a remarkable Rosso di Montalcino. You would be hard-pressed to find a more delicious, complex, pure Sangiovese wine in Montalcino (or anywhere!) at such a modest price.
