2024 Envinate, Tenerife, Taganan Tinto

Envínate was founded by four friends who met while studying enology, and they now work with local families in the village of Taganana to farm some of the most isolated and ancient vineyards on the island of Tenerife. This wine is made from a field blend of many native grape varieties—including Listán Negro, Negramoll, and others—sourced from untrained vines that range from 50 to over 150 years old and are planted directly into steep, volcanic rock soils. In the glass, it displays a precise, medium-bodied profile defined by crunchy red fruit, sour cherry, and a signature thread of smoke and saline minerality. The 2024 vintage was warm and dry, leading to a shorter maceration that resulted in a lighter, clearer expression with refined, grainy tannins. It is a highly drinkable wine that is ready to enjoy tonight, though its focus and structure suggest it will also reward a few years of patience in the cellar.
