2024 Gerard Seguin, Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes

Due to severe mildew pressure, the 2024 vintage saw some of the lowest yields in nearly a decade. Ultimately, it was a story of terroir. The stony, well-drained hillside sites of Gevrey naturally shed excess water, their limestone bedrock and alluvial debris functioning as a passive filtration system that flatter, heavier soils simply could not replicate. Gérard-Séguin farms exactly this kind of terrain. Here, the terroir did not merely perform well in a difficult year; it protected the fruit when other sites could not. This wine is sourced from a single old-vine vineyard in the Reniard lieu-dit in the southern reaches of Gevrey, situated near the Grand Cru belt. The soils here sit on the Combe Grisard alluvial fan — stony, well-drained, and a key reason why Gevrey is one of the only appellations with village-designated vineyards south of the RN74. These vines are between 60 and 90 years old. While this site already over-delivered in a generous vintage like '23, the concentration in '24 is truly striking thanks to naturally reduced yields and Jérôme's exacting work in both the vineyard and cellar. The estate's hallmark style — sleek, fruit-driven extraction and supple tannins that coat the palate and pull you back for another pour — remains fully intact. Don't mistake its early appeal for a lack of seriousness.
