2024 Marquis d'Angerville, Volnay 1er Cru

Domaine Marquis d’Angerville has been a defining presence in Volnay since the early 20th century, when Sem d’Angerville became one of the first producers in Burgundy to estate-bottle his own wines to ensure their authenticity. This wine is made from Pinot Noir grown on the village’s classic, stony marly-limestone soils, which promote deep root penetration and natural drainage. In the glass, it shows refined red cherry and raspberry fruit balanced by a subtle, earthy minerality and fine-grained, elegant tannins. The 2024 vintage was characterized by a challenging, wet growing season that resulted in very low yields, ultimately concentrating the fruit and sharpening the wine's characteristic energy and purity. With its structural poise and inherent tension, this is a bottle that rewards patience in the cellar yet possesses enough clarity to be savored upon release.
