2024 Marquis d'Angerville, Volnay, 1er Cru Champans

Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is a historic estate in Volnay that gained prominence in the 1920s when it became one of the first in Burgundy to bottle its own production in defiance of local negociants. The wine is made from Pinot Noir grown in the Champans climat, a south-east facing site featuring a mix of rocky limestone at the top of the slope and deeper, clay-dominant soils toward the bottom. In the glass, it presents well-defined brambly red berry fruit, hints of earth, and subtle notes of forest floor, supported by a medium-bodied texture and supple, powdery tannins. While the 2024 growing season presented significant challenges, this bottling emerged as a precise, energy-driven expression that highlights the vineyard’s inherent resilience. This is a wine built for the cellar, with the structure to develop complexity over the next decade or more.
