2024 Paul Pillot, Chassagne-Montrachet, 1er Cru Les Champs Gain

Domaine Paul Pillot is a Chassagne-Montrachet family estate founded in 1900, and it is now run by Thierry Pillot, the fourth generation. Les Champs Gains is a premier cru directly below Caillerets, on limestone with deep clay soils, and its vines are about 45 years old. The domaine ages its wines for 18 months, mostly in barrels with little new wood, so the oak stays in the background. The 2024 vintage in Burgundy was small and wet, and critics rated the whites above the reds, describing them as having energy and mineral clarity.
