2024 Scar of the Sea, San Luis Obispo County, Bassi Vineyard Chardonnay

Scar of the Sea is owned and operated by Mikey and Gina Giugni, who established their winery in 2012 and recently acquired the Bassi Vineyard in the San Luis Obispo Coast AVA to serve as their permanent estate. The vines at this site were planted in 2001 and are situated on sandy, sandstone-rich slopes just over a mile from the Pacific Ocean, where they are managed using regenerative and biodynamic farming practices. In the glass, this wine displays notes of yellow apple, citrus, and crushed stone, supported by a saline-driven structure and a persistent, textured finish. The 2024 vintage provided a steady, cool growing season that allowed the fruit to retain high natural acidity and bright, focused energy. This is a balanced, transparent expression of its coastal home that is ready to enjoy tonight but possesses the underlying tension to age gracefully for several years.
