Mother Rock is the project of winemaker Johan "Stompie" Meyer, based at his estate on the Piketberg Mountain in the northern reaches of the Swartland. The fruit for this bottling is made from dry-farmed Chenin Blanc vines planted in 1984, which grow in decomposed granite and clay soils on the Paardeberg Mountain. In the glass, it shows complex aromatics of fynbos, citrus, and stone fruit, balanced by a pithy, textured structure and persistent grip. The 2025 vintage provided steady, moderate ripening conditions, resulting in a wine that maintains high-toned energy and refined definition. This is a serious, well-structured wine that is ready to enjoy tonight, offering a distinct and savory expression of its site.
