Alain Graillot applies his signature whole-cluster methodology to Saint-Joseph, utilizing organic farming and concrete-vat fermentation to emphasize the Northern Rhône’s granitic core. Sourced from steep parcels in the southern sector of the appellation, the wine reflects the drainage and mineral austerity inherent to these primary rock soils.
The 2016 vintage, defined by a long, temperate growing season, yielded fruit with exceptional physiological ripeness and high acid retention, resulting in a profile marked by nerve and tension. These conditions, paired with the structural influence of the stems, produced a Syrah with fine-grained, architectural tannins and a lean mid-palate density.
The final result is a model of vintage-specific transparency, prioritizing structural balance and tectonic precision over primary weight.
