2022 Baraveou, Bandol Rouge

Bandol is an amazing appellation. The wines are mainly made from Mourvèdre and Grenache which can be burly, super tannic and alcoholic, and quite difficult to drink in their youth or at any time frankly. Jean-Philippe Fourney at Domaine Baraveou, however, has been able to harness Bandol's special terroir and rugged grapes. Jean-Philippe has a full time job managing the vines at Domaine Tempier. Tempier is without question the most famous and important Bandol producer, so it comes as no surprise that Jean-Philippe is making remarkable wines on his own. His first vintage was 2015, and the future is so bright at this property. They’re only going to get better with age, but the style is very inviting to enjoy in their youth. This is an elegant, pure, full-bodied Provençal red.
